Looking back on Sonic's journey you think that nothing gets to him but it does. And Sonic's reaction is exactly what happens when they had enough of the strong negative comments they were receiving.

Sonic knows he messes up... ALOT. But he doesn't need to be constantly reminded of his mistakes, and Shadow saying what he said, he kindve deserved that kick in the face.
