I like to think that each of Max's losses to Kazuya is canonical and Heihachi just gets back up every time

The fact that the developers have you playing as the Final Boss of the game in order to give you any kind of chance against Shin Akuma shows ya how hardcore this fight is meant to be.

That final Akuma battle was the toughest of any fighting game I've played. I felt it was a miracle when I beat him.
