Description
The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservatives and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities.

The Federalist Society NEW RELEASE: Upon the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865, many Americans thought that slavery had been abolished once and for all. You forgot to mention a great difference from nowadays: in the Code of Hammurabi society was divided in three groups: superior men, commoners and slaves and further clearly divided in two sexes, and penalties were very different according to status. Nowadays, in theory, everyone is equal before the Law.

I’m here because I was interested in knowing more about rabies, and found that the earliest documentation of the virus was mentioned in the Laws of Eshnunna. Now I’m in a rabbit hole of understanding ancient society. What a night.
When Hammurabi carved his code into stone, he wasn’t just defining laws — he was defining the idea that words can outlive kings.️
