i can't imagine why on earth they got him up.  he could have been paralyzed, from the chest down if his spinal cord had gotten severed.  and moving around, could have caused the broken pieces of the vertabrae to shift, which then could have injured his spinal cord.  he's lucky.  had to hurt like hell.

If he had broken his back he wouldn't have been able to get up.

oh and just for the record, the bones in your BACK are called vertabrae.  they surround your spinal cord to protect it.  you can break your back, and not be paralized, which is what happened to him.  so he did break his back.
